ON THIS EPISODE
On this weeks Podcast, we sit down with Founder and Creative Director of Camp Helping Hands, Meredith Madnick. She brings joy and excitement to campers once they hear the last day and the school bell, they know it’s Camp Helping Hands time.
Meredith grew up back East and in this area it is a ritual that kids attended summer sleep away camps. Her experiences as a child going to summer camp each year made her realize how influential it was to building her own characteristics. The leadership, team activities and life skills during camp only benefited her adult career.
She opened up Camp Helping Hands for children all across the Conjeo Valley. It was her mission to put a small twist on the camp while keeping it extremely traditional. Meredith’s goal is to incorporate weekly themed community service based trips which is referred to as The Over Arching Theme. Most of the campers come from privileged backgrounds so she makes it a point to educate on how one person can make a difference in there community once they are back home.
Second best part of this incredible camp is that it’s a no tech zone. It helps campers live in the moment. Teaches them to be present and engaged, not allowing time to think to share a moment on Snapchat or Instagram. Creating connection through interaction is also a focal point of the camp.
This camp is the full package deal, from cheer offs and sing alongs, all the way to weaving in a service element of service learning. The motto is “Make a difference while having fun helping others”.
